

He edits choral scores for several publishers, including Suvini Zerboni, Carrara, Rugginenti, Discantica, Carisch and BMM. Since 2009, he has also been the Artistic Director of the Milan Choral Academy, a unique international training program for choir directors and singers. He also presented workshops at the XVI and XVIII Europa Cantat, for A.DI.CO.RA (Argentine National Association of Choral Directors), for whom he conducted the Co.Na.Jo (National Young Choir, 2008), the XXIII Encuentro Coral (Málaga, Spain) and the Vox Mirabilis workshops (Vélez-Málaga, Spain).

In 2013, he worked as choirmaster at the Carlo Felice Opera Theatre in Genoa. Berrini has worked in major festivals and concert seasons throughout Italy, as well as in Portugal, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Israel and the United Arab Emirates. Since 1988, Ars Cantica has won numerous prizes in both national and international competitions (1st prize at the National and International Arezzo Choral Competition and Grand Prix Guido d’Arezzo, in 2003), and has participated in major national and international festivals.

He is the founding Artistic Director of the professional vocal ensemble Ars Cantica Choir & Consort. Currently a professor of choral music at the Conservatorio Antonio Vivaldi in Alessandria, his conducting includes the direction of vocal ensembles and choirs with and without instruments and orchestra. He graduated from the Conservatorio Giuseppe Verdi in Milan, where he studied piano, conducting, composition and musicology. Shorter also offers a Bachelor of Music in Music Education in Voice. These include Opera Theatre and Musical Theatre productions, as well as singing with the acclaimed Shorter Chorale.


Shorter vocal studies students gain a variety of performing experience, both as solo performers and in ensembles. Students also study Diction, Song Literature, Opera Literature, and Vocal Pedagogy as well as Music Theory and Ear Training, Musicology, Piano, and Conducting. The degree centers on private applied voice study culminating in a 25-minute junior recital and a 50-minute senior recital. The Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance is an intense program designed to train the well-rounded singer and musician. Thomas currently serves as a visiting professor of music at Shorter, while maintaining a busy performing schedule. In 2006, she made her Italian debut with the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa. This includes, Indra Thomas (class of 1993) was hailed as “the next great Verdi soprano” after highly lauded performances with the New York Philharmonic and the Metropolitan Opera. Shorter vocal students include numerous national MTNA winners as well as winners of Regional NATS competitions.
